Wish Casting Wednesday!!

Jamie asked us this week:
What do you wish to experience?

I wish to have the experience to feel a child hood Christmas again.

When I was younger, I lived for Christmas. It was my favourite time of the year. The twinkling lights, the laughter and the thought that father Christmas was going to bring lots of presents!!

I remember one Christmas my dad dressed up as Santa for the local community club on Christmas Eve to hand out presents for unprivilaged children in the area. (Thinking back, what a wonderful thing for my dad to do.)

Unfortunately I was there as well. I waited in anticipation for my turn with Santa. I hopped on his lap to hear a voice through a moving beard saying, "Now, little girl, what would you like for Christmas?" I was looking at Santa's hands when I said, " You have the same ring as my daddy!" He did!

I kept saying this over and over until I heard my dads gruff voice saying "Claire! Shut up! I am not your dad, I am bloody Santa!" This just made me even more excited! " How do you know my name?!?!" I gasped!

My dad/Santa was getting very annoyed by this point and said to my mum who was helping give out the presents " Give me that parcel for this one!"
In return my mum said " Oh, here you are Dennis" (Which is my dad's name.) Her face said it all when she said this realising she had put my dad in the thick of it.

"You ARE my daddy!" My daddy is SANTA CLAUS!!!" I screamed!
I was delighted. My father, however was less than impressed. He had enough of ho ho hoing lark (he had been Santa for three hours mind you ) and stormed off to the bar to be found at closing time singing Dean Martin numbers and muttering curses about his own children ruining his time as the world renowned Santa.

As time rolls on only too quickly and I have grown to an adult (most days) Christmas has turned into a thing of dread. Tragically and suddenly, my Mum died 7 years ago this Christmas and my dreams and laughter of Christmas have been lost in a haze of guilt and regret. Now every time I see Christmas tree lights, that awful hollow feeling in my stomach comes over me and stays ther, wishing for the clock to turn back so I could save her and the tears too easily fall. Last year I found particularly hard for some reason.

So this year I wish to save Christmas spirit experience for my family and I and also think about others at this time. Which brings me neatly on to this. Christmas is a wonderful time for many people, but is also marked by sadness for many, probably yourself too. Please spare a thought for this wee one as this is going to be very hard for her this year. I made her this card.

Only after I did this I researched about her likes and dislikes only to find she is not really a girlie girl (I certainly was not at that age) and likes Fuchsia pink and black and definitely no fairies! Oops! I will begin again, and so I will donate this to our very own wish caster Jamie and say thank you you for reminding me of what wishes are important and those that are not.

Happy Wish casting Wednesday to you!

So what ever clairedelalune wishes for xmas and beyond, I wish for her also!

I understand the grief around Christmas, but know that this year you will have joy mixed in as well. It truly is a magical time of year.

Oh Claire, I was seriously laughing at the Santa and your Mom and then it was like you slapped me right across the face.

I am so sorry to hear that your Mom has passed. I am really sorry Claire.

One of my friends who died on the 21st of December from cancer (her birthday was on the 31st of December). Her daughter said because her Mom loved Christmas that she was going to celebrate it and love it the most, not be saddened by it.

Oh Claire, you are a brave girl and I hope that you have a Merry Christmas.

Love Renee xoxoxo

This will be my 4th Christmas w/o my beloved sister and my 2nd w/o my Daddy. I know how hard it is to find the Christmas spirit when the Ghosts of Christmas past are lurking about. I so wish for you to find that JOY, that innocence & wonder that we think can only be seen through the eyes of child. I also wish it for myself and our families, our friends, our fellow wishcasters and the world.
peace,love & light
Lissa

As Claire wishes for herself, so I wish, pray & ask the angels for her also.

Awww hon..I'm so sorry hon..it's so hsrd to loose them ...I truly understand this. I lost my Mom 22 years ago. The holidays have not been the same since.
So..I created new traditions for my family...started doing things differently..different foods, movie marathons, shopping and fun stuff..eventually..it became a joy again. May the joy and magic of Christmas come to you! Hugs, Sarah

I am rolling about your Dad as Santa and I can just see this curly haired little girl sitting on his lap figuring out the whole thing. What a great story. I am truly sorry about Christmas bringing sad feelings but understand why. I'm wishing for a wonderful holiday spirit to come and sweep you away to great memories of childhood!

A childhood Christmas would be a wonderful wish.

But a healthy Christmas for everyone would be at the top of my list.

As you wish for yourself, so I wish for you also. *hugs* to you for the difficult memories; I lost my mom this past January, so I understand that hollow feeling that creeps up. May the holidays be joyful for you this year and filled with good memories while making good new ones.

Your story about Santa is like scene from a good comedy movie.

As Claire wishes for herself, so I wish for her too!

I hope that you are able to find a little more joy in your Christmas this year.

That was a wonderful little story! It made me laugh. I'm so very sorry that you lost your mom on Christmas day. These things seem so unfair, sometimes. I wish for you that your joyful thoughts and memories far outweigh any sad ones this Christmas! And most of all, as you wish for yourself, I wish for you also!

P.S. That's a sweet little fairy drawing. I love fairies!

Oh Claire...I'm so sorry about your mother. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to lose a parent unexpectedly...especially around the holidays.

On the flip side of the coin, your 'Santa dad' story had me in stitches. :)

Big hugs to you, love.
