I am reading a lovely wee book called Essential Poems (To fall in love with) Edited by Daisy Goodwin. Here is a couple of my favourites.
He wishes for the cloths of heaven
By W.B. Yeats
Had I The heavens embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with the golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim ans the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet;
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
The Look
by Sara Teasdale
Strephon kissed me in the Spring,
Robin in the fall,
But Colin only looked at me
And never kissed at all.
Strephon's kiss was lost in jest,
Robin's lost in play,
But the kiss in Clion's eyes
Haunts me night and day.
