Running the Race for Life!

Woohoo! I did it! I ran my first charity Race for Cancer research today! It's another one off my list so double whammy! It was great, a fantastic atmopshere and very emotional! Let me tell you all about it though the medium of photography! (I just start rambling otherwise!)

Well I was very happy to know Big fella would be cheering me on from the side lines. We walked though the park and saw a trail of pink ladies, all set up in trainers, pink feather boas, and pink cowboy hats! (and all the rest of the gear obviously!)

We thought we were on the right track so we followed them! I felt quite low key with my black top and moth ridden tracksuit bottoms! (They are my lucky tracksuit bottoms! The moths give me flight when I run!)
Soon the pathway opened up onto a sea of pink! It was like the biggest hen party you have ever seen. Big Fella looked terrified.
There was also an ambulance on standby
but I wasn't sure if it would benefit big fella more than me at this precise moment.

He pinned my race number on my front, and on my back the people I was running for
* Carol
Carol is a dear friends mother who lost her fight with Cancer a few years back and my friend misses her so much. The other three names are blogger's I have had the honour of meeting though this wee space and who many of you know as well. Audrey is fighting once again but is a strong woman and I just think she is wonderful! Audrey you have been a inspiration time and time again and so glad we got back in touch again, I just had to run for you!
Barry, has also been fighting hard, especially now, so this is was all the more get up and go I needed. The amazing thing about Barry, through it all, his sense of humour shines through and you have got to respect that! Best of luck Barry, we hope to hear again from you soon when you are feeling better! Last but certainly not least, Renee.
Renee was such a amazing woman with such an amazing family and her blog was unmissable. She wrote from her heart and her soul, you could not help but feel she was posting to you and you only. In it together. What amazing writer. A rare gift to captivate a reader like that. She had that effect.The fact that she even thought to read your blog and comment back through these strange, unnerving, sad times was just a glimpse of the kind of woman she was. When she left us, it hit a lot of the blogging community hard and that will never be forgotten. I could gone for ever about these wonderful, amazing people, but if you go and link on their names go and read their story, tell them I send my love.
When I was running the race, I could not help but think, I would do this a million times over everyday if it would it obliterate Cancer. I saw every ones messages on their back, with words of love, loss, and survival, and I realised how lucky I was to even experience this! Wonderful times, and the people running were amazing and soon the finish line was in sight! I crossed within half an hour and Big fella gave me a big cheer when I galloped though! I have raised £100 so far for the charity, and big fellas wee granny took my sponsership form to the pub the other night to raise more cash. She told me, at 11pm she told everybody "Big fella's wee Irish girlfriend" was doing a race for charity and to sponser me. She took it out at 11pm as everybody was drunk so she would get more money! Crafty! So who knows what we will end up with! As long as it helps Cancer research, every wee bit helps!
Big Fella also bought me a lovely jumper at the race to remind me of what I achieved.I also received a medal and I wanted to take a photo of it to show you.

I don't know why it came out like this, I detest using the flash button,never use it only with brute force and darkened nightclubs and it was a overcast day, raining in fact. Maybe angels were beside me. Or perhaps I am so sweaty after the race with a big woolly jumper on, it has turned me radio active! All in all I had a lovely time and wish I could do it all over again! So i am! I am looking to do a 10k race in October! I wish I could stamp out Cancer with every step!

Off to collapse now, bye bye!

How wonderful! Three cheers for you, Claire! And also for Big Fella for being so supportive. And of course for Big Fella's wee granny too for being so smart about when to hit people up for money!

I am so very proud of you Claire! And Big Fella too, he had to be a little bit nervous around all of those women. Kudos to you for a most outstanding job!

What a great thing to do - be proud of yourself! I lost my beloved Granny to breast cancer about 5 1/2 years ago. Seems everyone knows someone, doesn't it? Great pics!!
